Cyclists attempted to help while she cursed them away

Arkansas cyclist Nickel Potter shared photos of instant karma earlier this weekend received by a woman who, moments before the unfortunate photos were taken, tried to speed by and kick up dust at cyclists on a dirt road.

The accident happened in Garfield, Arkansas on N. Old Wire Road between County Road 110 and Gann Ridge Road.

Check out the gallery of photos from Potter’s Instagram below.

Here’s a link where the accident happened on Google Maps including a screenshot of the location.

Reading comments and context clues from the post, there was a large group ride with over 100 other riders on a route taking them all over Benton County, Arkansas.

“The truck passed my group of 4-6 people, doing 35-40 MPH on a dirt road.” Potter commented.

“(This woman) floored the gas as soon as she got around us and spun tires to kick up dust. 45 seconds later we rounded the next corner to see the truck on its side. There was another group a quarter mile in front of us. As the truck got to these riders the driver dropped the driver’s side tire off the road. She over corrected, fishtailed across the road, and then hit the embankment hard enough to tip onto its side.”

“The driver fell onto the front passenger (see pic 1.) She was yelling, and all the people in the car were moving around. There were about 100 riders behind us, so, after I took these pictures, I left them to reflect, and figure it out.”

Despite the woman’s egregious road rage, she still flipped her truck and ended up in a precarious situation.

“Ultimately, we saw they were unhurt, and I took some pictures, and then we all left.Potter added.

Instagram user @ItsDaleDude was also on the ride, corroborated what Potter said, and added he called for help ASAP.

“They didn’t want help. She was still cursing at us and blaming us.” @ItsDaleDude saidd.

“I called emergency services (dropped them the pin to their location) due to rollover risk and not creating more hazards.”

Another cyclist, Jim Phillips, stuck around to make sure the woman made it out OK and shared a video of her eventually climbing out thanks to emergency services.

“Was it the fault of the bikes in the road, or the driver who couldn’t control their vehicle flying by?” Phillips commented.

“Impatiently rushing doesn’t always save you time. Fortunately, they didn’t seem hurt.”

As of this writing, there’s no evidence of charges being filed by either the cyclists or the woman in the Dodge Ram against either party.

At least one meme is floating around making light of a situation that could’ve ended very differently.

45 minutes south of Benton County is Fayetteville, AR, home to this year’s UCI World Cyclo-Cross Championships.

  1. Should lose license for ONE YEAR, be required to complete driver training and retake road test to eventually get license back again, if they want to acquire a license again.
AND should be required to complete, say 100 hours of community service with a local bicycle non-profit, such as a bike kitchen or promoting bicycle use in some way.
Get the guilty, aggressive drivers 1) off the road for a while 2) volunteer advocates for bicycle use.
