The dashcam footage proved to police and insurance that this dashcam owner was not at fault for Loop 410 rear-end collision.

San Antonian and Redditor /u/JetLag4321 shared dashcam footage from earlier this last week (Nov. 6,2024) from the Loop 410 showing a distracted driver slam into the back of his truck.

The footage proved to be invaluable when it came time to prove to police and insurance who was at fault.

Check out his dashcam footage below.

[OC] got rear ended by a distracted driver. Dash cam proved to the cops it wasn’t my fault

The incident happened on the Loop 410 just under Jones Mattsburger Rd. and before Exit 21B onto Airport Blvd (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As his dashcam footage shows, OP slows to a crawl behind slowed traffic before exit 21B.

Before being hit, the soon-to-be rear-ender in a dark-colored Nissan Murano had been tailgating OP for more than a mile.

“I have footage of him (the rear-ender) tailgating me for 4 minutes…”

OP doesn’t even come to a complete stop before he’s rear-ended by the now-distracted aforementioned tailgater.

The last half of the video shows the collision from the other dashcam’s point of view.

“The camera showed I didn’t cut anyone off. I didn’t brake check. My tail lights aren’t broken even after being rear-ended. I never asked anyone to h*** me,” OP clarified.

It looks like OP made it out of this situation mostly unscathed, his truck included.

The same can’t be said for the Nissan Murano driver and his Murano, who’ll likely see their insurance rate go up after this all plays out.

“Sorry this happened to you, but you were great in The Hangover.,” /u/RooeeZe humoursly commented.

“Even without the dashcam, there’s no way the other driver can successfully argue that your fault. Make sure insurance gets a copy!,” /u/xerxespoon added.

Other Redditors argued that there are a few cases where the above is not 100 percent true, however, the driver who crashed into the rear end of the other vehicle would have to have some kind of proof or admission of guilt from the other driver.

“Happened to me a month ago. (The other) driver was doing 75mph while staring at his phone. It’s a nightmare. Totaled my truck and have been to a dozen doctor appointments,” /u/El_Brento7 bemoaned.

Thankfully, OP had definitive proof he was not at fault.

And, judging from his responses and what little damage to his truck occurred, the worse he got out of this unfortunate road rage turned collision is some insurance back and forth and perhaps a bit of work done by a body shop.

If you haven’t got yourself a dashcam, what are you waiting for?
