The driver in the wrong most likely had a flashing yellow arrow, indicating they should yield the right of way before turning.
St. Louis resident and Redditor /u/Marzuco just wanted to get breakfast, until an inattentive driver ruined his day.
/u/Marzuco shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier at the tail end of December (Dec 28, 2024) to the /r/Dashcam subreddit showing a driver, not paying attention, failing to yield to him as he entered the intersection causing him to get into an expensive T-bone accident.
Check out the dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of Telegraph Rd. and Sheridan Rd./Sappington Barracks Rd. in St. Louis (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, OP is driving along Telegraph.
The speed limit in this area is 40 MPH and, as his GPS shows, he was nowhere near speeding when entering the intersection.
Suddenly, a driver in a silver Toyota RAV4 can be seen turning left directly in front of him and into his path of travel.
With only a handful of seconds to react, OP slams on the brakes and does his best to mitigate the impending collision.
OP T-bones the RAV4, essentially totaling both vehicles.
“She had all the time in the world (to react,)” OP replied to a comment on his reaction time.
“I had max 4 seconds from the time she started turning to the time of the hit.”
Here’s a screenshot of what the RAV-4 driver’s light likely looked like except it would’ve been flashing.
“I walked away with a bruised and swollen wrist and a bruised knee. Airbag deployment on both side curtains, steering wheels, and pedals.”
“My car was valued at $14,000 and I owed $7500. Plus, I got an extra $10,000 from the UBER insurance company on top of the $10,000 (from my insurance?) They are paying to fix my phone that was damaged including my dashcam and glasses.
“It’s always f***in Telegraph Road, too.”
“-Fellow STL Driver,” /u/short_bed_showoff commented.
“OP was not at fault. OP never switched lanes and maintained his lane. truck turned into the turning lane. Lady most likely had a caution light for turning and still proceeded with NO caution,” /u/Blackorean added.
In Missouri, failure to yield resulting in physical injury is subject to a fine of between $200-500 depending on the severity of the injuries and/or up to 90 days of license suspension.
Oh, and on top of everything, his breakfast was delayed.
