A reckless Orange County driver tried to circumvent the natural flow of traffic using the breakdown lane. Gets instant karma from an observing police officer.

Orange County commuter and Redditor /u/wirenutter shared headshaking dashcam footage from the Florida Turnpike from earlier in November (Nov 17, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an actual nutter speeding past stopped traffic in the breakdown lane, only to get their comeuppance just as they passed an OCPD cruiser.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

[USA] I’ll just make my own lane

The incident happened along the Florida Turnpike as it passed through the Orange County city of Gotha (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is stuck in some bog-standard Florida Turnpike traffic, creeping along at speeds around 10 MPH.

In front of him is an Orange County Police Officer in his cruiser.

Suddenly, a driver in a white Honda Odyssey comes screaming by them in the breakdown lane at a dangerous speed.

If someone were actually in the breakdown lane or a driver decided to use it for its intended purpose as they drove by, it could’ve ended disastrously.

The OCPD officer, seeing it happen as plain as day, puts on his red and blues and pulls into the breakdown lane to pull the offending driver over.

” I think there was some kind of road rage involved,” OP clarified in the caption. ” I saw the white van trying to force his way in on the left shoulder and other vehicles were attempting to get the deputy’s attention.”

“Sorry officer, how was I supposed to know I would be caught?”, one of the top comments from /u/dsebulsk reads.

“Drivers like this should get their license suspended on the spot,” /u/Havoctheend added.

“No surprise there. Orange county Orlando, Florida. Traffic there is crazy and drivers in Florida are always impatient. Use to be one, but no more,” /u/zyyntin threw in.

In Florida, using the breakdown lane (shoulder) to pass traffic is illegal because driving off the paved or main‑traveled portion of the roadway is disallowed when passing on the right. (FL Stat. §316.084) Violating the passing rules under Florida Statutes §316.083–§316.084 is a noncriminal moving violation, typically carrying 3 points on your license and fines of around $60–$150 depending on the county.
