Chances are this distracted driver was looking at their phone moments before near disaster.
Utah County driver and Redditor /u/CaveManCar shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (Dec 30, 2025) showing a distracted driver in a Honda Van running a red at this busy intersection, narrowly avoiding what would’ve been one massive t-bone collision.
Check out the epic case of bad driving embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The near miss happened at the intersection of Triumph Blvd. and Ashton Blvd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is driving along Triumph Blvd when, before approaching the aforementioned intersection, they slip into the only left turn lane before coming to a stop.
Cross traffic, now with the right of way, starts to go when suddenly, a driver in a white Honda Odyssey comes driving past OP, seemingly on a collision course with traffic up ahead.
It’s been 6 seconds since the light turned red.
It appears, at the last second, the driver in the Odyssey popped their head up to see that they were now running a red as their brake lights were visible as they entered the intersection.
Brakes applied half a millisecond later, and it surely would’ve ended in one unfortunate and monstrous T-bone collision with a blue Honda CR-V they narrowly avoided.
“Wow, super close, that’s crazy. Light was dead red the whole time,” one of the top comments from /u/Memei4515 reads.
In Utah, running a red light is treated as a moving traffic infraction that can result in both a fine and demerit points on your driving record. Most red-light violations carry an approximate fine of around $130 (court costs can vary by jurisdiction), and a conviction typically adds **about *50 points* to your driving record under the state point system. These points count toward potential administrative actions — for example, adult drivers who accumulate 200 or more points within three years can face a hearing and possible license suspension. (Utah Driver License Division)
