Careless Audi driver busts a u-turn despite traffic with the right-of-way turning in front of him.
King County-area driver and Redditor /u/SuddenSn shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last year (July 7, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a careless driver in their Audi decide it’s A-OK to bust a U-turn despite turners with the right-of-way.
Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of Aurora Ave N and N 175th St (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed northbound on Aurora in the right turn lane towards 175th.
With a protected green arrow, OP has the right-of-way. Turners headed westbound on 175th at the moment must yield to anyone turning from Aurora.
This Audi driver throws the rules of the road out the window and busts a U-turn regardless while OP makes their right turn.
They come within inches of colliding while OP emergency brakes to avoid hitting them.
The Audi completes their turn, and everyone makes it out of the situation unscathed.
“At least in the state of Texas u-turner would be completely at fault for a collision,” one of the top comments from /u/ctb0045 reads.
“Yea I believe that here in WA we also have something similar. For reference, I’m basing my understanding from WA state law, RCW 46.61.295,” OP replied.
46.61.295 defining “U” turns says that,
“(1) The driver of any vehicle shall not turn such vehicle so as to proceed in the opposite direction unless such movement can be made in safety and without interfering with other traffic.”
“(2) No vehicle shall be turned so as to proceed in the opposite direction upon any curve, or upon the approach to or near the crest of a grade, where such vehicle cannot be seen by the driver of any other vehicle approaching from either direction within five hundred feet.”
So, despite the Audi driver assuming they had the right-of-way, they should’ve slowed and not assumed his way was clear before attempting a U-turn.
In Washington, making a U-turn against a protected green turn is a failure to yield. This can result in a moving violation ticket, typically around $136, and may add points to your driving record. If a crash occurs, penalties can escalate to negligent driving or more serious charges.
