While the Tesla Roadster is presumably years away from actual production with real examples landing in customer’s houses, you can get this $3.6M Aspark Owl EV supercar preordered today!

Aspark, a Japanese engineering firm based in Osaka, Japan, took the internet by storm when it started dropping videos online showing its all-electric supercar hitting 60 MPH in 1.9 seconds and under, a feat that Tesla’s Roadster claimed it could do. And now, as per Bloomberg reporting from the 2018 Paris Motor Show, Aspark is taking preorders for its bonkers quick and beautifully styled Aspark Owl. Aspark is asking potential customers to put down a third of the total price as a deposit, which is non-refundable. Aspark priced the Owl EV at $3.6M.

Much like the Tesla Roadster 2.0, this Aspark Owl is a marvel of modern engineering with a body completely made out of carbon fiber built around a space frame chassis with wonder-weave body panels.

As an aside, I can only find wonder-weave under Aspark so I’m going to assume it’s a trademarked technique of sorts that melds a chassis and carbon fiber, good enough for road use.

At the heart of its electric powertrain is a battery pack and motor setup capable of delivering 1,150 HP and 652 lb-ft. It’s that astonishing horsepower that really shocks me, able to deliver all that low-end torque at such a tremendous rate. Package that power in a chassis that weighs just 1,900 pounds and you’ve got a recipe for an EV speed demon good enough for sub-2 blasts to 60 MPH and a supposed top speed of 174 MPH.

Aspark is keen to point out in their promotional brochure that their EV is styled to be beautiful, and I tend to agree with that statement. The Aspark EV, when viewed from the front does look like an owl glaring at you. The rest of its carbon fiber body is shaped by CFD with classic race car proportions including wide tires front and rear and a gigantic chassis mounted rear spoiler jutting out between the tail lights.

Aspark is only making 50.

It’s certainly beautiful and has the performance chops to keep up with the Tesla Roadster 2.0 but it’s not very practical. The Roadster, as the name suggests, is a roadster with so much visibility. This, on the other hand, well, you can’t even see out of the back.

And customer support? You can forget about that with Aspark’s only office in Japan.

This Aspark Owl is just for the filthy rich who want something unique…uniquely quick that is.
