Dashcam video saved this driver in Ogden, UT from agreeing to split liability.
Utahn and Redditor /u/MFKRebel shared dashcam footage to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit from earlier in August from Ogden, UT showing a driver in a blue Honda HR-V veering out of their turn lane causing OP to hit and damage his rear bumper.
It would’ve been a case of split liability had it not been for /u/MKFRebel’s dashcam footage.
Check out his redeeming dashcam footage below.
[OC] Gotta stay in your turning lanes folks

The incident happened at the intersection of Wall Ave and 30th St in Ogden, UT.
In /u/MFKRebel’s video, we can OP turning left in the left-most turn lane.
Suddenly, a driver in a blue Honda HR-V can be seen encroaching into his turn lane ultimately causing him to hit the Honda’s rear bumper.
This overhead screenshot shows turn lane markings showing where each turn lane is headed towards.

OP looked at his rear camera footage and thought this Honda HR-V driver was going too fast for his turn.
“I have a rear camera too and it looks like he was going too fast for a left turn onto a one-way street and did nothing too correct it.”
Eventually, both drivers pull to the side of the road to gather each other’s thoughts and to trade insurance information.
“After I told him he needed to stay in his lane when turning he tried to argue with me and I responded to him saying “I’m not gonna argue with you on the side of the road, I have dash cam footage to show the police and your insurance company,” /u/MFKRebel clarified.
“After we moved to the other side of the road and I was using my phone to get the footage to show to the police he was trying to get in my car to look at, which I told him please not to get into my car.”
Thankfully, no one was hurt, the only damage being to either vehicle.
Since the other driver thought it was not his fault, his statement to his insurance adjuster reflected that.
“The dashcam footage saved me from split liability, too,” OP responded to a comment asking how fault was doled out.
“My adjuster was so happy I had it (dashcam footage.) She said it made her job so much easier and saved me from split liability because she wouldn’t have been able to assign sole liability with the statements she had.”
“Also always show the police the footage so they can reflect that in the police report the insurance companies will obtain.”
Regardless of the Honda HR-V driver’s intentions if he realized he was in the wrong or not, the fact is that memory can’t 100% be relied upon when reconstructing an accident after the fact.
Thankfully, this driver had his dashcam running to back him up.
Had he not had a dashcam, he would’ve been partly responsible for the other driver’s damage, possibly raising his rates at no fault of his own.
If you’re wondering, OP has a Rexing V1P.
