This reckless driver entered the intersection at 300 W and 7200 S a good five seconds after their light turned red.
Utahan and Redditor /u/CriminyJHistmas shared head-shaking dashcam footage to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit from earlier last week (Sept 16, 2024) from Midvale, UT showing a reckless and possibly distracted driver in a black Chevrolet Silverado entering this intersection a good five seconds after their light turned red resulting in his bed getting t-boned by another driver in a Toyota Tacoma.
Check out his dashcam footage below.

The incident happened at the intersection of 7200 South and 300 West in Midvale, UT (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he’s stopped, ready to turn left at the aforementioned intersection.
OP is ready to turn left after his light turns green but he must first yield to drivers going straight.
Drivers up ahead are wary to enter the intersection, and for good reason as five seconds later, what’s presumably a distracted driver in a black Chevrolet Silverado runs the red light.
Unfortunately, to OP’s right, a driver in a Toyota Tacoma creeps forward, doesn’t see the Silverado driver, and T-bones his bed totaling his vehicle.
“Get off your phones people. The light was green for nearly 6 seconds, 5 more ft and the lady (in the Toyota Tacoma) might have been killed,” OP captioned his other thread on the /u/SaltLakeCity subreddit.
The crash was so bad initially police did not believe the Tacoma driver was going so slow.
“The cops didn’t believe me when I said the Tacoma Driver was only going 5-10 MPH,” OP replied to the Tacoma driver, who showed up in the Reddit thread in a now-deleted comment.
Thankfully, OP had his dashcam running and provided both the authorities and the Tacoma driver’s insurance, through the Tacoma driver, the footage.
“Why are so many people running red lights now?? It’s like way more often,” /u/Claydameyer commented.
“I find myself checking intersections before I go to make sure no one is coming for me now.”
“Good thing the other truck got the front end, not into the door…yikes But still, the light changed when the first went through, this truck wasn’t even close to making it. Straight to jail!!,” /u/Racer-XYZ22 added.
“The people across the street looked like they noticed the truck not slowing down cause they were hesitant to take off when it turned green,” /u/Castille_92 replied.
As /u/Claydameyer commented, it’s now a best practice to wait a beat and check cross traffic when you get a green light at an intersection.
It’s become all too common for distracted drivers to run red lights, often, like in this case, affecting other drivers in the worst way, too.
