This Uber Driver on Rhea County Highway narrowly avoided a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver.
Tennessean and Redditor /u/8sianRednek shared dashcam footage from his wife to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit from Dayton from earlier this September (Sept 14, 2024) showing the harebrained moment a wrong-way driver almost collided head-on with his wife’s car.
Check out the dashcam footage for yourself below.

The incident happened on Rhea County Highway (US 27) just across from Graysville (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As /u/8sianRednek’s wife’s dashcam shows, she’s driving along US 27 at around 11 PM.
Up ahead, you can make out the headlights of our wrong-way driver headed towards oncoming traffic.
Positioned to make a left turn in a mile, OP’s wife is in the left lane on a collision course with the wrong-way driver.
The driver wasn’t going all that fast and, just before the meet, OP’s wife swerved onto the shoulder giving room for the wrong-way driver to pass her.
“What the f***ing hell???,” she exclaims before safely merging back onto the road.
“Your wife really needs to look farther down the road. Thankful she didn’t get in an accident. I’ve had this happen with a semi coming at me before. It’s absolutely terrifying,” /u/Dew_Boy suggested and shared.
“Always swerve to the right when you encounter someone driving the wrong way.,” /u/PygmeePony suggested.
OP does admit the wrong way driver took her by surprise.
“She said the headlights didn’t register in her head that it was on the same lane until a second later. Definitely looking into defensive driving course for her!,” OP clarified.
The top comment came from /u/TofuttiKlein-ein-ein who suggested that OPs’ wife also update her insurance as most common car insurance policies don’t cover accidents while delivering food as a freelance job.
“Glad she’s okay. I hope she has proper insurance. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen claims denied for delivery service. Your personal insurance, unless you have an endorsement allowing delivery/transportation network, will not cover any accidents,” /u/TofuttiKlein-ein-ein helpfully added.
Thankfully, at that moment, no one was seriously injured or hurt.
That’s why driving defensively is a full-time job behind the wheel.
And, if you’re a delivery driver for DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc, it’s a good idea to make sure your insurance will cover you in case of an accident.
