Mercedes wrecks trying to run a red light at MD-198 and Old Columbia Pike.

Marylander and Redditor /u/SonBarrington shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last month (Nov 18, 2024) from Burtonsville to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in a Mercedes GL running a red light at MD-198 and Columbia Pike getting T-boned by a left turning driver with the right of way.

Check out his dashcam footage from the front and behind below.

As mentioned, the incident happened at the intersection of Columbia Pike and Old Columbia Pike (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As /u/SonBarrington’s dashcam shows, he’s stopped on Old Columbia Pike ready to turn left.

At that point, traffic headed straight has had a red light for several seconds.

Suddenly, a driver in a black Mercedes GL can be seen passing OP headed towards the intersection with no signs of slowing.

The driver in the Mercedes does their best to thread the needle, dodging turners.

He doesn’t make it, gets t-boned by a driver in a white Nissan Pathfinder, does a full 180-degree spin, and comes to an abrupt stop.

Both vehicles suffer thousands in damage.

“At least the idiot was the only one that really got racked, physics worked in everybody else’s favor for once,” /u/downtown-fix6177 commented.

“Love collisions like this. The red light runner gets their bluff called and gets smacked by a driver with the right of way. So many think they can do whatever they want and other people will just brake for them,” /u/Mr_Unbiased added.

“This intersection is half an hour from my house and I’m not surprised at all that this happened lmao,” local /u/Bobbyteam11 replied.

In Maryland, running a red light is subject to a fine of up to $180 before fees and three points on your record.
