Dashcam video shows an Altima driver blasting through a 25 MPH school zone at reckless speeds.

Durham commuter and Redditor /u/H_J_Moody shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier this year (January 8, 2025) from Durham, N.C. showing a reckless driver in a Nissan Altima entering a school zone on Alston Ave and overtaking across double solid yellow lines at speeds well over the speed limit.

Check out their dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

As mentioned, the incident happened along S Alston Ave in Durham, N.C. right across from Love’s Grove Middle School (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the video shows, OP starts a couple of blocks away from the incident to show that the lights were flashing at the time, indicating the speed limit dropped from 35 MPH to 25 MPH.

The lights are flashing indicating a school zone.

As OP approaches Love’s Grove Middle School, a driver in a gold Nissan Altima can be seen overtaking OP over two sets of double solid yellow lines (which should be treated as a barrier) at speeds well over 25 MPH.

In N.C., speeding in a school zone is subject to a fine of $250 before fees.

That kind of lane change in a no-passing zone is arguably a form of reckless driving, and violators are subject to extreme penalties and fines upwards of $1000.

“I doubly hate people who pass dangerously only to immediately turn after the pass. All that risk for what?” /u/MountainWocky asked.

“It’s an Altima. Trying to outrun the repo man,” /u/CheapConsideration11 humorously added.

“Those two cars, one breaks left, the other right in sync. Like g**damn Top Gun,” /u/JohnnyBrillcream pointed out.”

There’s a reason there are reduced speed limits in school zones, to lessen the chance of pedestrian/auto accidents.

Unfortuntaly, this driver’s convenience takes priority over any safety benefits

Hopefully, he’s observed breaking the law, pulled over, and cited accordingly sooner rather than later.
