An elderly man was spotted on Reserve St. using the center left turn lane like his own private road.

Missoula commuter and Redditor /u/forgot_my_usergain shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier this January (Jan 30, 2025) showing an elderly drive on S Reserve St using the Center Left Turn Lane like it was a regular traffic lane.

As OP’s dashcam footage shows, OP is driving on S Reserve St (exact location on Google Maps linked here.) when he enters the center left turn lane to, what looks like enter Sentinel Veterinary Specialists and Emergency.

Suddenly, an elderly driver in a blue Toyota Corolla can be seen driving towards OP in said Center Left Turn Lane.

“I moved into the left hand turn lane to turn into a driveway like a normal human being,” OP clarified.

“Dangerous Grandpa moved into the left-hand turn lane to turn AT THE LIGHT like a million f***ing miles away. You can see him fade off into the distance in my rear cam (which isn’t positioned great, I know).”

This, of course, is against Montana’s rules of the road.

The driver in the Corolla veers around OP, then continues down the Center Left Turn Lane like it’s business as usual.

“You can barely see him in the video, but I got a good look as he drove by flipping me off lol. The dude was in his late 100s. His first car had 1 horse. Someone take the keys away from your grandpappy; it’s time to hang it up. Also, yes, I drive a hoopty. I’ve had it for 20 years and I’m just trying to keep it going a little longer.”

OP even provided a diagram showing how it all played out.

According to Montana Code 61-8-328 (2)

“Upon a roadway that is divided into three lanes and that provides for two-way movement of traffic, a vehicle may not be operated in the center lane except for subsections (a) and (b).”

Both subsections (a) and (b) do not apply to what that Corolla driver was doing.

Montana Code 61-8-333 further clarifies what can be done in the center turn lane. It certainly can’t be used to drive through as a normal lane.

A Center Left Turn Violations seems to carry a $70 base fine before fees.

“Entitled old people are the f***ing worst,” /u/Mudflap42069 bluntly put it.

“He’s not even doing this right. Back in the days of three-lane highways you at least put your blinker on while bombing down the center lane,” /u/brufleth commented.

“”But I gotta turn left up here in a couple of miles!,” /u/Anynamesleft hilariously added.

Center Left Turn Lanes, it’s in the name, for turning only.
