A quick-thinking, defensive-driving dashcam owner slammed on his brakes just in time to avoid hitting a clueless pedestrian.

Arizona driver and Redditor /u/AxisonTilt shared frustrating and headshaking dashcam footage from Glendale from earlier in February (Feb 8, 2025) showing an idiot pedestrian stepping out into oncoming traffic with no care in the world.

The incident happened in the 8000 block of N 43rd Ave in Glendale (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he drives through the intersection with Northern.

The speed limit in this area is 45 MPH.

About 150-175 feet ahead, OP notices two pedestrians facing the street.

Approaching at and slightly above the speed limit and so close, it’s safe to assume OP presumed they wouldn’t step out to cross, but one of them does.

“Oh, no, no, no, no, noooo,” OP exclaims as he panic brakes to a complete stop.

The pedestrian? Couldn’t give a flying f***.

“What the f***!” OP shouts in complete and understandable frustration.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Although that lady probably learned nothing, her friend saw her friend’s idiocy all play out so, she got a first-hand lesson of how dumb her friend is and hopefully gained some respect for oncoming traffic.

“I’ve seen homeless people cross the street regardless of traffic like they have no preservation instinct. It’s wild,” /u/gimpinmypants commented.

“Looks like a newer more dangerous insurance fraud scheme,” /u/intelligent_set_2729 observed.

“Normal activity in Phoenix. It’s worse at night especially when they dressed in all black on streets with low lighting,” /u/dulin18 added.

/u/Dulun18 then commented some advice on what to do should you accidentally hit a pedestrian crossing illegally in such a wanton disregard for their safety.

The TL;DR of it (full version here) is to pull over, call the police, stay at the scene, and comply with responders when they ask for your statement.

Jaywalking isn’t necessarily illegal in Arizona as it’s legal to cross using the shortest route and at a right angle to the curb.

However, pedestrians still must yield the right of way to vehicles, something this clown didn’t do.
