Had it not been for this speeding driver’s auto emergency braking system, he would’ve T-boned this dashcam owner 100 percent.

Garden City commuter and Redditor /u/US4Door350zMC shared heart-pumping dashcam footage from earlier last year (Nov 6, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a speeding driver almost T-boning him as he navigated the Garden City Square Shopping Mall Parking Lot.

Check out his dsahcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened smack dab in the middle of the Garden City Square Shopping Mall in Garden City (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, OP is driving around the parking lot, presumably on his way out.

OP admits to speeding himself, but, according to the parking regulations of Garden City, only by 2 MPH.

The speed limit in city-owned parking lots is 15 MPH. OP hits 17 MPH, and only for a split second.

As OP rounds the corner, he almost gets T-boned by a driver in a newish Kia Soul.

Thankfully, the newest Kia Souls (and most, if not all new Kias) have autonomous emergency braking standard.

His car’s emergency braking was able to recognize an imminent collision and automatically applied the brakes without the driver’s intervention.

“Oh s***. Holy f***!” OP understandingly shouts.

“After I stalled, both I and the other driver got out to make sure no contact was made, and he said something along the lines of “I’m so grateful for automatic braking’. (He was) around the same age as I was, with his GF in the passenger seat.”

“I’m just thankful that he was driving a new car that had that because I assume I would’ve taken a trip to the hospital because of the speeds, but thankfully, everyone and everything was alright, and we went our separate ways”

“A lot of these posts exaggerate the other person’s speed, but you aren’t kidding here. That guy was hauling a** for being in a parking lot, not to mention ignoring the stop line. I hope he learned from this,” /u/Karma_1969 commented.

“Did you wear your brown pants that day?,” /u/DillyDillyMilly humoursly asked.

“I’ll never understand why people feel the need to speed in parking lots,” /u/DwtD_xKingz added.

In a parking lot, drivers in the main flow of traffic (through lanes) generally have the right-of-way over those pulling out of parking spaces or feeder lanes, and pedestrians always have the right-of-way (obviously.)
