Idiot Dad makes an illegal u-turn that results in a crash despite signage explicitly prohibiting him from making said turn.

Columbus commuter and Redditor /u/LifeGeo shared truly headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last year (Dec 19, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the disastrous results of a dad making an illegal u-turn on OH-161.

The crash happened at the intersection of OH-161 and Strawberry Farms Blvd in Columbus/Westerville Ohio (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As his dashcam footage shows, OP is driving down OH-161 on a Thursday night in the early evening.

As he approaches the aforementioned intersection with the right of way, a driver in a black Acura MDX makes an illegal U-turn.

Despite OP not only having the green light, signage prohibits left turns (u-turns included.

OP does everything he can to slow down but it’s too little too late.

Unbeknownst to OP, the driver in the MDX is a Dad with his six-month-old son in the back seat.

OP doesn’t mention any serious injuries as a result so we’re going to have to presume everyone made it out of the incident unscathed, physically at least.

“The destruction to the car would have been nothing compared to my wife’s destruction to me if I got into an accident driving like that with a 6m. old in the back seat. I don’t know what story I would tell her, but your video would cause my marriage to crumble,” the top comment from /u/SuperZapper_Recharge reads.

In Ohio, violators of illegal U-turn laws are subject to a misdemeanor with fines up to $150 before fees.
