The dangerous dance started when the dump truck cut off the work van.

Columbus commuter and Redditor /u/BRC6985 shared headshaking dashcam footage from I-71 from earlier last week (Mar 14, 2025) showing drivers in a dump truck and average-sized work van get into a dangerous, road-rage-filled dance with one cutting off the other, creating dangerous driving conditions for all involved and other drivers around them.

[OC] A dump truck and a work van do a little dance

The incident happened along I-71 in Columbus kicking off between the 270 and the 104 (Thereabouts on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s dashcam footage shows, a driver in a heavy-duty dump truck signals and cuts it close in front of a Dodge Ram ProMaster van.

It’s worth noting these dump trucks weigh around 30,000 pounds whereas the weight of a ProMaster is a 1/5th that around 6,0000 pounds.

OP even mentions this one might have a full load, upping the weight by tens of thousands.

The driver in the Promaster scoots out of the way and proceeds to accelerate, pass by, and change lanes in front of the dump truck in retaliation.

The dump truck driver tries to get in front of the Promaster…again, but is outmaneuvered by the lighter, more nimble Promaster, the Promaster driver accelerating and staying ahead of the dump truck.

Meanwhile, cars around these two road ragers try their best to avoid their one-upmanship.

Presumably, their road antics settle down from there.

“Why would you f*** with a dump truck driver? They are some of the biggest no fu*** to give drivers on the road,” /u/Styckx wonders.

“Right! And that truck looks like it’s got a full load, too. I get being pissed about a dump truck hauling a load of rocks cutting you off on the freeway, but that just ain’t the play, Jack,” OP replies

This is arguably an unsafe lane change and in Ohio, violators are subject to a fine of up to $150, two points on your record, and possible community service, too.
