With no traffic in sight, or so they thought, this Tesla driver acted like red lights don’t apply to them.
Loudoun County commuter and Redditor /u/JoaosItGoing shared head-shaking dashcam footage from Sterling from earlier last year (April 5, 2024) showing a driver in a blue Tesla Model Y blow through a red light at this busy intersection simply because they thought they didn’t see traffic coming from either direction.
Check out his dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on VA-634, but more specifically, at the intersection of Lockridge Rd. and Moran Rd.
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he pulls up behind this Tesla Model Y at the aforementioned intersection right before noon.
With a red light, traffic going the other way has the right of way.
Not wanting to wait, the Tesla driver guns it in disregard of cross traffic.
A driver in a grey colored SUV can be seen following close behind the red light runner, so traffic wasn’t 100 percent clear.
Total time saved from the time they blew the red and when their light turned green?
10 whole seconds.
Those in the comments argued the actuality of OP’s thread title, claiming Tesla drivers are the most entitled.
“Just wait until you find out about Ram drivers,” the top comment from /u/Tusks_Up added.
“I don’t know, I see a whole lot more entitled-ness in full-size pickups than anything else. The bigger the truck, the more entitled it acts,” /u/89GTAWS6 also commented.
“Well, in little ol’ Midwest Kansas, it’s by far truck drivers. Any f***nut with the truck nuts is bound to be the most entitled person on the road,” /u/JohnnyBlazin25
Ironically, OP pointed out he was driving a Chevrolet Silverado.
There’s some wisdom to be gleaned from the comments, as it seems like your defensive driving should be extra heightened around pickup truck drivers.
Regardless, while you can get away with one or two blasts through red lights, it’s a bad habit that’ll eventually catch up to you.
Not a matter of if, but when.
In Virginia, running a red light opens you up to fines and points, typically around $100 before fees, but up to $350. Also, expect 4 points, too.
Doesn’t surprise me. Drivers in the DMV are entitled, selfish, arrogant and aggressive. Don’t believe the laws (of any kind) apply to them.
This is a bull**** piece, trying to shame Tesla owners. What does it matter what kind of car it was? I’m sure owners of all makes and models flout traffic laws. You just revealed your “news” to be biased. Goodbye. Enjoy your TDS.
