While there isn’t a specific rule forbidding lane changes in the middle of Maryland intersections, you still have to do so safely, something these Crofton drivers aren’t doing.

Crofton commuter and Redditor /u/MrMcflaky shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier this week (May 19, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing inattentive drivers unsafely changing lanes in the middle of this busy Crain Highway intersection.

Check out his dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident often takes place at the intersection of Conway Rd. and Crain Hwy in Crofton (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he begins to cross this busy intersection when he’s forced to brake and honk as a driver in a small, blue Hyundai Venue changes lanes in the middle of the intersection, without signaling, almost causing a small collision.

According to OP’s title, this happens at least once a week.

“They still probably have no clue why someone was honking at them,” the top comment from NO-Notice565 reads.

“I’ve seen this happen in double left-turn lanes, but a straightaway? Jeez people are stupid. (Or just need to get off those damn phones),” /u/Inabottle0726 added.

“Design of this intersection is kinda stupid tho ngl,” /u/throwawayuhhhhh65, pointing out how the offset nature of the roads with no guidelines shows how the design of the intersection can contribute to the problem.

Here’s how the lanes look from the other side, looking back, the lanes clearly aren’t a straight shot from the other side.

Conway and MD-424.

While changing lanes is strictly prohibited and spelled out so in most U.S. States, like California, I could not find a specific law prohibiting this unsafe practice in Maryland.

Regardless, Maryland, like California, does have a rule prohibiting unsafe lane changes, which this case is.

Drivers caught committing an unsafe lane change are subject to a $110 fine before fees and one point on your record.
