This inattentive and just plain bad driver ran a red light at Tower and 49th, a good 10 seconds after their light turned red.
Denver commuter and Redditor /u/GrayWoldMan shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in May (May 21, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver running a red light at this intersection nearly 10 seconds after their light turned, causing them to get t-boned by another driver who had the right of way.
Check out the dashcam video below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
As mentioned, the incident happened at the intersection of Tower Rd. and E 49th Ave in Denver (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam footage shows, OP is waiting to turn onto Tower from E 49th. When he gets the green, he begins to make his turn but thankfully has the presence of mind to stop and wait.
Out of the corner of his eye, he sees an idiot driver in a dark colored crossover enter the intersection nearly 10 seconds after their light turned red.
Unfortunately, a driver in a Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet with the right of way creeps out into the intersection at the same time and ends up t-boning the red light runner.
The Murano wasn’t going all that fast, but the collision was bad enough that the Murano CrossCabriolet is totaled.
The same can arguably be said for the red light runner’s vehicle, too.
OP doesn’t mention if anyone was seriously hurt or injured in the collision, so we can only speculate.
Keen eyes will notice airbags deploying as designed. Pair that with the likelihood that the drivers and occupants were belted in, and there’s a good chance everyone, at the very least, is, to put it frankly, alive.
OP mentions he’s provided the footage to the local Denver PD.
Regardless, the red light runner is a complete idiot whose mistake has inconvenienced another life/lives, with both drivers now out of a car.
“What the hell.. I mean, that wasn’t even a close call. Just blatantly running a red light,” /u/Blinknonew commented.
“If you’re gonna run a red light, why in the everloving f*** would you do it when three other vehicles are already heading through the intersection? Truly mindblowing stuff,” /u/VoteNextTime added.
“Subaru dodged a bullet there,” /u/argonzo pointed out.
In Colorado, a red light ticket carries a base fine of $110 before all the fees, with four points, too.
A red light infraction that causes an accident may increase fines and points.
