This idiot was likely trying to turn into the gas station from the travel lane, but didn’t take into account the turn lane he was crossing over.

The wife of a Severna Park commuter and Redditor /u/DeWayne9972 shared head-shaking dashcam footage from earlier this week (June 2, 2025) showing an idiot driver trying to make a right turn into a gas station from a travel lane only to get t-boned by OP’s wife’s car in a turn lane with the right of way.

The incident happened in the 600 block of the Ritchie Highway (Route 2) just before the intersection with McKinsey Rd (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s wife’s dashcam footage shows, she enters a turn lane before the aforementioned intersection in the designated dashed line zone.

She wasn’t in a bike lane or emergency shoulder, she was in a turn lane.

As she approaches the intersection, an idiot driver in a Chrysler sedan can be seen choosing that exact moment to turn across OP’s wife’s turn lane and into the parallel gas station.

OP’s wife t-bones the idiot hard, destroying her front end, setting off her airbags, and likely setting off the airbags of the Chrysler, too.

Thankfully, OP’s wife is OK.

“She is ok, just some burns/bruises from the airbag going off. Actually got a brand of the GMC emblem on her forearm.“

As for the other driver, OP doesn’t mention any specifics, so it’s implied they’re OK, too.

OP says the other driver asked his wife if she was OK and didn’t try to shift the blame, ultimately taking responsibility for the accident.

In Maryland, making an improper right turn, such as turning from the second lane instead of the designated right-turn lane, is a traffic violation under §21-601 of the Maryland Transportation Code.

Violators who are caught making an improper turn resulting in a collision are hit with a base fine of $130 before all the fees and three points on their record.
