A drunk, shirtless driver was caught on dashcam swerving out of control on the 4, causing his wreck.

Bay Area commuter and Redditor /u/Pichuboy168 shared headshaking dashcam footage from near Pittsburg/Bay Point from earlier this past July 4 weekend showing a drunk driver in a Subaru Legacy swerving out of control on Highway 4, causing his solo car wreck.

Check out the dashcam below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

[OC] Avoided a July 4th accident with a shirtless cowboy

The crash happened on Highway 4 just before Exit 9 (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s dashcam shows, he’s driving on Highway 4 at around 9 PM when a driver in what looks like a silver Subaru Legacy comes blasting past.

We later see the car’s already on a spare tire, which, since spares are smaller, often come with speed limitations and warnings, not to exceed 50 MPH.

The driver signals, changes lanes to the right, but then jerks back left, causing him to swerve into a guard rail protecting a utility box and spinning not once, but twice, before coming to a stop in the middle of the freeway.

The reason why he spun out immediately becomes clear as the driver emerges shirtless, wearing a cowboy hat, and indicating signs he’s been driving under the influence.

The likely drunk driver walks across the Highway to the shoulder, to safety.

One keen-eyed Redditor I quoted below points out that the driver grabs a Target bag, likely filled with evidence (alcohol.)

Interestingly, that guard rail, only 75 feet long (I measured it on Maps) was placed there to protect a utility box, likely for the BART train signal for the BART train in the middle of the freeway.

Without the rail, that driver would’ve likely careened up the embankment, making a solo crash that much worse.

“JFC… he’s drunk, you can see how he walks. Take his license away,” the top comment from /u/britannicker reads.

“I mean, he grabbed what was important. Target bag…,” /u/Panda_Milla humoursly adds.

Drunk and driving on a donut. Looks like he’s trying to get rid of some of the evidence at the end,” /u/LobotomizedByMormon points out.

DUIs in California are no joke, with first-time violators subject to jail time up to six months, a fine up to $1,000 before fees, a suspended license, often an Ignition Interlock Device being installed, and mandatory DUI school.
