The likely elderly driver almost made what could’ve been a costly and possibly injurious driving mistake.

San Antonio commuter and Redditor /u/CraterInMyChest shared a headshaking dashcam video from earlier last week (July 9, 2025) showing who they believe is an elderly driver making a serious driving mistake by turning the wrong way into traffic onto La Cantera Parkway.

Check out their dashcam video below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened near the intersection of Frontage Road and La Cantera Parkway (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam video shows, OP is following a driver in a Chevrolet Impala. Suddenly, the driver makes a left turn onto La Cantera, but enters the wrong set of lanes.

Their plates are handicap ones reading 1SYGD.

“I see a handicap wheelchair license plate, driving like that, I’m assuming you’re 80+” OP commented.

Fortunately, there was no traffic headed the other way all throughout the underpass, and whether the driver knew they messed up or not, they eventually turned left onto the other side of Frontage Rd, this time going the right way.

“The cop at the turnaround didn’t even notice,” the last half of her caption reads.

“Lucky that oncoming traffic had a red. 😓,” the top comment from 3ightball reads.

“If only it were possible to put some sort of marking on a road to show where the lanes go…,” /u/EPiZirco sarcastically pointed out.

“The issue isn’t age, it’s competence. No matter what the age, incompetent/dangerous drivers should be taken off the road,” /u/BobColorado clarified.

/u/BobColorado does have a point, although it’s worth pointing out that there is a correlation between elderly drivers and accident incidences, with data showing an increasing trend of accidents per miles driven from 65+ and upwards.

Regardless of age, wrong-way drivers are in Texas are subject to a fine of between $150-200 before all the fees.
