Two examples of failing to yield almost causing collisions, happened on Union Ave within 10 seconds of each other.
Long Island commuter and Redditor /u/MissIncognito99 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (July 9, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing two drivers, one from Amazon and another left turner, both pulling out way too close to /u/MissIncognito99, leaving little room for braking, almost causing serious collisions.
Check out the dashcam video below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at and near the intersection of Union Ave. and Laurel St. (Exact location on Google maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam shows, they’re driving along Union Ave, approaching the aforementioned intersection.
You can see the Amazon van, and presumably so can the Amazon driver to OP.
Then, about 50 feet from the intersection (I measured on Google Maps), the Amazon driver jumps out to cross?
It was way too close, as OP had to resort to emergency braking to avoid a collision.
Then, not less than 10 seconds after that whole ordeal, another turner turning left into a driveway cuts across OP’s lane way too close, too.
“Yo, what are we doing?” OP exclaims while honking, and rightfully so.
“That was not a good time to pull out…,” one of the top comments from /u/ultradip reads.
“First one: Well, that was a poorly timed decision. Second one: Are we sure OP is not invisible?” /u/rotfloosaurus humously added.
And yes, many comments pointed out the angle of the dashcam, to which OP says they’ve since corrected it to see more of the road.
In New York, failure to yield, in most typical cases like the dashcam video shows, results in a fine of $150 for first-time offenders before fees and 3 points on your driving record.
