One of the laziest attempts at what’s often considered a red light “hack.”

Tulsa commuter and Redditor /u/Dark-Masters-Light shared truly headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (July 21, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in S Memorial Dr. try to circumvent a red light using a well-known “hack” only to do the laziest version of it, ever.

Check out their attempt below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Memorial Dr. and 103rd St. in Tulsa (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, OP is in the right-most lane headed straight across 103rd St.

A driver in a light blue Chevrolet Trax towing a yard utility trailer and already over the limit line is clearly in a rush and too good to wait for a red light.

The Trax driver decides to do the ol’ “Make a right, then a u-turn, and then a right, again” to circumvent a red light, but does a half-a**ed attempt at it.

First, they start their right turn next to OP in the wrong turn lane.

And then, instead of making a legal u-turn further down the road, they immediately make their u-turn over a crosswalk before completing their “Soverign Citizen-style” hack and turning right, back onto Memorial Dr.

And of course, seven seconds after their multiple illegal maneuvers turn, the light turns green, anyway.

“This is like the SovCit of illegal turns. I think, in their mind, they think it’s legal because of the right turn on red, and that they’re the smartest people alive for having figured out this loophole,” the top comment from /u/Extension-Addition84 commented.

“Never let your enemy know your next move,” /u/Rammid humoursly added.

“Dude probably thinks he has found the ultimate red light hack,” /u/Qwirk added.

There were multiple violations here, but the most notable ones are,

…an improper right turn which, in OK, warrants a violator a fine of around $151 before all the fees.

There’s also an illegal U-turn over a crosswalk, or an improper U-turn, and that’s another $151 fine.

And, finally, there’s the whole running a red light, which earns a violator a $250 fine before fees and 2 points on your record.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t Tulsa’s finest observing, but if they were, it’d be one expensive ticket, for sure.
