This driver dangerously used an emergency shoulder and gore point to make an illegal pass.

San Bernardino County commuter and Redditor /u/GotSeoul shared headshaking dashcam footage from I-15 S from earlier last week (July 30, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a reckless driver using both the emergency shoulder and gore point to make an illegal pass on the right.

Check out how it went down in the embedded dashcam video below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident took place in Yermo on the Mojave Freeway on I-15 S just after Exit 191 onto Ghost Town Rd (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam video shows, OP is driving along near the speed limit on I-15 in the right lane with little to no traffic in front of him.

As he passes Exit 191, a driver in the newest model Honda Accord comes flying by him, passing using the shoulder.

If that wasn’t bad enough, they continue through a gore point, an area of the highway not meant to be driven through, to complete their illegal overtake.

Keen eyes will notice this isn’t the best example of Accord as one of their tires is flat; in its place is a spare.

With a smaller-than-normal size and not much rubber on the road, spare tires are typically meant to get you safely home at speeds not exceeding 50 MPH.

This driver clearly was going well above 70 MPH.

Moments later, a motorcyclist legally passes OP, correctly using the fast lane, or passing lane.

“This took place today on the I-15 South between Yermo and Barstow. Looks like the driver passed on the right, maybe because the motorcycle was passing me on the left too slow?”

“Actually, I didn’t see the car until it came up on me; the slight shift to the right was coincidental/accidental, not intentional. But looking at the video again, I can see how you could get that impression,” OP clarified to a commenter criticizing their slight drift to the right before the offending driver passed.

“This comment section is wild. OP did nothing wrong. The passing motorcycle did nothing wrong. The only one in the wrong is the black sedan, which is not only speeding recklessly, he also passed on the onramp/shoulder, and is a complete menace. Anyone blaming OP probably drives like the black sedan and should have their license revoked,” one of the top comments from /u/lipsrednails added.

“Traveling the Interstate is like watching a circus on wheels. 🔥🚗,” /u/realAtheling humously added.

In California, violators using the shoulder to pass like this, dangerously, are subject to a $237 fine after all the fees and 1 point on their driving record.
