The driver seemed genuinely confused about how to navigate a red light placed in a construction zone blocking off a lane.

Cumberland County commuter and Redditor /u/OGSuperVayne shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier this August (Aug 12, 2025) to the /r/Dashcam subreddit showing a confused driver coming up to a portable traffic signal and disregarding the red light altogether.

Check out how it all went down below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened on ME-114 just before the intersection with W Shore Rd. and near the Sebago Church of the Nazarene (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is driving along ME-114 following a gold Subaru Legacy.

They both pass orange construction warning signs that the lane is closed ahead and to expect a traffic signal.

A sign warning motorists to expect a construction zone and a traffic signal device.

Before they get to the red light, there’s even a white sign showing a directive to “Stop Here on Red.”

It can’t get more obvious what to do.

OP observes the driver in the Legacy come up to the portable traffic signal with a red light indicating, and, instead of coming to a stop, they slow, and then go against the red light into oncoming traffic.

As other commenters pointed out, they look confused about how to navigate what should be a routine kind of traffic re-routing.

Presumably, nothing happened, and they made it through, as OP didn’t say they got into an accident as a result; however, what they did exponentially increased their chances of getting into one.

“My parents grew up in a rural area. They said everyone ran reds. But on greens, everyone stops to look out for people running reds,” the top comment from /u/Legitmate-Log-9542 reads.

“They for sure had to have been thinking “stop sign” (flashing red). Please let that have been the reason. They honestly looked confused and unsure. Doesn’t excuse them, but it helps me not hate them as much as my reflexes want to,” /u/Dry_Variation_17 added.

In Maine, this likely falls under running a red light or failing to obey a traffic control device, a traffic infraction subject to a fine of up to 146 before all the fees and four demerit points.
