Despite creeping out, this driver bolted out onto Menchaca without looking when it mattered the most.
Austin area driver and Redditor /u/BlackJack545 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (Aug 25, 2025) to the /r/Dashcam subreddit showing a careless driver failing to yield to cross traffic, turning left across opposing traffic, and getting into a t-bone accident, subsequently causing a multi-car collision.
Check out the dashcam video embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of Menchaca Rd. and Iverness, across from the Crockett Center Strip Mall/Shopping center (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is stopped at a limit line on Menchaca Rd at the aforementioned intersection.
Traffic is backed up; however, a driver in a white Cadillac coupe’s left a gap large enough for a car exiting the Crockett Center to slip through to turn left.
Turning left across cross traffic means the onus is on the left turner to only complete their turn if it’s safe to do so, which means creeping forward and checking approaching traffic with the right of way.
It certainly looks like they were carefully turning, as slow as they were going; however, when it mattered the most, the driver in the Civic bolts out onto Menchaca and gets t-boned, hard, by a driver in another Civic going straight.
The left-turner ricochets off the other Civic and into the rear bumper of the Cadillac, which had left a space before bouncing off of OP’s front bumper.
All in all, four cars were roped in, two with severe damage, likely totaling both.
“Amazingly, no serious injuries. Everybody walked away just a little bruised up,” OP replied to a comment asking about injuries.
OP just got this dashcam, not three months earlier during an Amazon Prime Day.
“Best $100 I’ve ever spent..this made the insurance claim so much easier,” the last half of OP’s caption and the title to his Reddit thread reads.
“Going to fight for their insurance to pay for the depreciation of value. And that will be going right into my new Miata project car.”
As mentioned, thankfully, everyone made it out OK, but what an insurance headache for all parties to go through.
This is yet another data point to get yourself a dashcam if you don’t have one already.
