They say bad drivers never miss their exit, and this is yet more proof of that.
Bay Area commuter and Redditor /u/Lipton shared insane dashcam footage from earlier in August (Aug 27, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver on I-280, in a bid not to miss their exit towards the 17, drive down a concrete embankment into parallel traffic, almost causing a multi-vehicle crash in the process.
Check out their insane move below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
As mentioned, the incident happened on the 280 towards San Francisco at the interchange towards SR-17 Santa Cruz and I-880 North (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP exits I-280 towards the 17 interchange off-ramp.
In front of him, we can see a driver in a newer model Toyota Camry still on I-280, but separated from the interchange by a lowered gore point embankment, driving down onto the concrete embankment towards traffic with the right of way.
The Camry lands with a thud, with a driver in a Rav-4 already in the lane in front of the crazy merger swerving out of the way to avoid hitting them.
A driver in a Toyota Sienna in the left-most lane brakes, anticipating the driver in the Rav-4’s swerve.

A driver in a Nissan Quest following the above Sienna emergency brakes to avoid rear-ending them both.
That’s where the clip ends, and thankfully, nothing comes of that Camry driver’s insane move.
“I- This is a whole new level of never missing their exit, holy,” the top comment from /u/SuperCalaMan01 reads.
“The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me,” /u/JoJack82 added.
“This happens all too often at this exact spot in SJ. Even OP crossed the solid white,” /u/Comcastrated pointed out.
Driving over a raised gore point like this is likely a violation of Vehicle Code §21651(a), which prohibits driving over or across a dividing section between roadways.
Violators of the above can expect a $238 base fine and one point on their driver’s record if cited.
