The driver in the shuttle bus had the yellow light for five long seconds, enough time to begin to slow to a stop, something they had no plans to do.

Fort Collins commuter and Redditor /u/WhatIsWorld3 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in September (Sept 5, 2025) to the /r/WhatCouldGoWrong subreddit showing the headshaking moment a driver in an old shuttle bus ran a red light on Mulberry and Summit View, t-boning a turner towing a utility trailer.

Here’s the dashcam video embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of E Mulberry St. and Summit View Dr. (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is waiting to turn left onto Summit View.

We see the light is green, but turns yellow for five full seconds, giving anyone approaching the intersection enough time to slow and prepare to stop.

It appears a driver in a truck pulling a utility trailer kitty corner to OP presumably has a flashing or solid yellow turn arrow, found throughout Ft Collins.

A driver in an old shuttle bus on Mulberry decides he’s not going to stop and takes his chances, blowing the red light.

At the same time, the driver in the truck pulling a trailer assumes, with cross traffic now having a red, the shuttle bus will somehow stop in time.

The driver in the truck assumes wrong, unfortunately, and gets t-boned hard by the red light-running shuttle bus driver.

Fortunately, OP reported “no injuries.”

And, with dashcam video evidence, that shuttle bus driver will certainly get most, if not all of the fault, when insurance investigates.

“I always wait the extra beat to make sure incoming traffic is slowing down and stopping. The worst-case scenario is momentarily blocking the intersection. Much bigger risk of someone speeding up to beat the light or outright running through the red like this,” /u/ShirtlessElement suggested.

“Never assume they will stop if you are making a wide left turn.. especially when you have a trailer,” /u/JuanLee337 concurred.

“The trailer both helped and ruined the truck’s day,” /u/Hephaestus_God pointed out.

“Without the trailer, the driver probably would have sped up to miss. However, being hit with the trailer saved the truck from flipping over as it wrapped around the van.”

In Fort Collins, a red light violation resulting in a collision can lead to fines up to $3,000 if classified as a traffic infraction. If the violation involves excessive speed (25 mph or more over the limit), 6 points may be added to your driving record, and a court appearance is mandatory
