These teens more than likely had flashing red lights, which require them to stop and yield to traffic with the ight of way.

St. Clair County commuter and Redditor /u/Offline-King shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (Sept 17, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing High School drivers exiting Anchor Bay High, ignoring the traffic signal, and almost causing their own t-bone accident as a result.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below for yourself with the original Reddit thread linked here.

As mentioned, the incident happened at the intersection of County Line Rd. and Hobarth as drivers exit Anchor Bay High (exact location on Google Maps linked here. )

As the dashcam shows, OP is driving along County Line Rd., approaching the aforementioned intersection.

As he approaches the front driveway into Anchor Bay High, he can see a driver in a Ford Escape poking the front end of his crossover into the intersection, way past the limit line and causing a potential hazard.

OP and traffic going his way have a flashing yellow, which means they have the right of way and can proceed through the intersection without stopping, provided it’s clear.

Drivers exiting Anchor Bay at that point likely have a red or flashing red, which requires drivers to come to a complete stop, yielding to traffic with the right of way (OP.)

For whatever reason, the driver in the Escape chooses when OP is approaching as the right time to jump out into traffic.

Thankfully, OP is aware of that potential of a t-bone incident and, driving defensively, swerves out of the way.

“During the week until school ends, the lights are as a regular intersection. After school ends, it’s a flashing yellow for north and southbound and on the east and west side it’s always a flashing red,” OP clarified in the comments.

“The speed limit for the road is 55mph unless it’s during school hours, which it was not when I went through.”

“Also, as I was going through the intersection, I saw the SUV begin to pull out, but then stop so I assumed that they were going to wait for me to pass like you’re supposed to do at a flashing red light.”

In Michigan and most other places, running a flashing red light is akin to running a red/stop sign.

In St. Clair County, this is a civil infraction with violators subject to a $130 fine before all the fees and three points on your driving record.
