This Mercedes driver thought he could brute force his way in front of another driver, completely ignoring the rules of the road.
New Haven County commuter and Redditor /u/Papabear1102 shared headshaking dashcam footage from this I-95 off-ramp from earlier in September (Sept 24, 2025) to the /r/ConvenientCop subreddit showing a Mercedes driver cutting off another driver, probably likely they normally do, except this time, that other driver was a cop in an unmarked cruiser.
Check out their video embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on the Exit 54 I-95 off-ramp as drivers merge onto Cedar St. in front of the AAA office (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP takes Exit 54 towards Cedar St. and slots into the left turn lane behind another driver in a black Ford Explorer that looks a lot like a police interceptor.
Allowed to turn right on red after yielding, traffic inches forward.
Suddenly, an impatient driver in a light colored Mercedes GLE SUV in the straight and left turn-only lane tries something slick by brute forcing his way to the front and attempts to cut off the driver in the Explorer.
The driver in the Explorer braked hard to avoid hitting the Mercedes.
Turns out the driver in the Explorer is a cop in an unmarked interceptor, and OP immediately gets a show as the cop puts on his reds and blues to pull the Mercedes driver over.
“Cops must just love it when they fall into their lap like that. “Well, guess I gotta pull this idiot over,” one of the top comments from /u/toiletsurprise reads.
“You have to be a special type of person to cut off a cop,” /u/cazzipropri added.
In Connecticut, making a turn from the wrong lane—such as a vehicle in a straight-only or left-turn-only lane cutting off a car turning right on red—is a violation of Section 14-241 of the Connecticut General Statutes. This offense is classified as an infraction, which typically results in a base fine of $132-142 and 2 points on your record.
Running a red gets you another base fine up to $150 and 3 points on your record.
Suffice it to say that Mercedes driver had a bad day. Did he learn his lesson? Probably not, unfortunately.
