Careless driver making U-turn from the wrong lane turns into a case of convenient cop when they’re immediatly pulled over.
Hennepin County driver and Redditor /u/Yeetith_Thy_Skeetith shared a case of convenient cop from earlier in September to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver making a U-turn from the outside lane without realizing there’s a cop right behind them, only to immediatly get pulled over.
Check out the video of instant justice embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of MN-252 and 66th Ave N in Brooklyn Center (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is on MN-252 and in the left-most turn lane onto 66th Ave.
Traffic opposite him has the green light and starts going; however, they notice one of the cars in the outside lane is attempting a U-turn, prohibited in Minnesota and every state, given how dangerous it is as they’ll likely collide with traffic in the inside lane turning left.
Here’s the birds-eye view of where the car starts to U-turn.

Unbeknownst to the careless U-turner, a police officer in an interceptor sees the whole thing and, immediatly after the driver commits his U-turn, they flip on their reds and blues and proceed to pull them over.
“Cops would be so much more liked by the public if they focused more on stuff like this,” the top comment from /u/Khaztr reads.
“The penalties for willful, dangerous driving like this need to be a lot higher,” /u/StrangeLove4564 added.
If someone makes a U-turn from the wrong/outside lane at a place like 252 & 66th in Brooklyn Center, they are likely to be cited under MN § 169.19 for turning from an improper lane (or improper turning/starting or signaling).
Violators are subject to a $128 base fine before all the fees.
