An unsafe left turn into a business ended in over $10,000 in damages paid out by the other driver’s insurance.

Plymouth County driver and Redditor /u/YouKnowYourCrazy shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in October (Oct 1, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a careless driver making a blind left turn into a business off Washington St., causing them to crash into a dashcam owner with the right of way.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened on MA-53 across from VIP Tires and Service and before the intersection with Webster St. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is on Washington St, driving at and even slightly below the posted speed limit at around 30 MPH.

“I live in the country, it is VERY dark with very little traffic and very little businesses or street lights. Especially at this time of year, it’s dark by 4PM. This was a rare trip to a more densely populated area.”

As he approached the aforementioned location, a driver in a Volvo SUV was making a left turn onto Assinippi Ave.

As such, they were inadvertently blocking the view of anyone attempting to make a left turn into VIP Tires and Service, which, at that time and for what it’s worth, was closed.

Just as OP passed the Volvo SUV, a driver in a white Honda CR-V is seen making a left turn, blindly, into VIP Tires and Service, directly across OP’s path.

OP does their best to swerve, but it’s too little too late; the CR-V crashes into the side of OP’s front fender.

“The cop said that type of accident happens a lot on that road, but yeah I don’t see how she didn’t see my headlights, they are super bright (I get flashes all the time because people think they are high beam when it’s just those obnoxious, really bright ones.”

Although the collision didn’t appear to be much, it was.

“(The damages were)over $10k, but they admitted fault because I had the video, and her insurance is paying,” OP clarified.

In Massachusetts, making a left turn without yielding to oncoming traffic is a violation of M.G.L. c. 90, § 14, which requires drivers to yield the right-of-way when turning left. While the specific fine for this offense is not explicitly stated, similar violations under M.G.L. c. 90, § 20 have fines ranging from $35 to $150, depending on the offense and whether it’s a first or subsequent violation. Additionally, such a violation may result in 2 surchargeable points on your driving record under Massachusetts’ Safe Driver Insurance Plan (SDIP). Accumulating 12 or more points within a 24-month period can lead to a license suspension. (Wikipedia)
