Reckless driver tries to cut off dashcam owner using gore area only to crash, and it’s all on video.
Clay County commuter and Redditor /u/TheOilChecker69 shared particularly headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in September to the /r/IdiotsInCars showing a plain ol’ bad and reckless driver trying to cut them off on Roosevelt Blvd over a gore area, only to crash into OP.
And, of course, they had the nerve to blame him.
Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on a kind of busy area of Roosevelt Blvd/US 17/ SR15, which leads to an 295 North On-Ramp towards Savannah (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is driving along Roosevelt, minding their own business.
Traffic is clearly delineated by traffic on Roosevelt and drivers headed towards 295 by a cross-hatched off Gore Area, an area drivers aren’t supposed to drive through.
Suddenly, a driver in a red Chevrolet Cruze headed towards 295 disregards the gore area and tries to cut OP off.
Confusingly, they don’t accelerate, but rather, at one point, slam on their brakes, practically guaranteeing they’ll hit, which they do.
“Why would anyone brake at the same time merging? If they didn’t brake, they likely could have barely made the merge,” a top comment from /u/styckx asks.
“Not too sure, probably tried to do an insurance scam. If I didn’t have the dashcam it could look like I rear-ended her and was at fault,” OP replied.
Thankfully, the other driver didn’t attempt a hit and run as she stuck around till the police arrived.
“The officer talked to me one-on-one first, I showed him the dashcam clip in private and then he let her give her statement without mentioning my dashcam video.”
“She then started yelling at the police officer and stated that she knows her rights, no surprise he issued her a ticket at the end lol”
Her charge?
“She was at fault and received a ticket for improper lane change, her insurance covered the damages.”
In Florida, an improper lane change is considered a moving violation under Florida Statute 316.085. Conviction typically results in a fine ranging from $65 to $300 and 3 points added to your driving record. Accumulating 12 points within 12 months can lead to a 30-day license suspension.
