Two vehicles, including one commercial box truck, were caught on dashcam running a red light deep into its red light cycle.
Fairfax County commuter and Redditor /u/CareWornAlien shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in October (Oct 20, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing multiple red light runners disregarding the traffic light at this particularly busy intersection.
Check out the dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of VA-123/Chain Bridge Rd. offramp and Leesburg Pike/7 (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP exited off VA-123 and is prepared to turn left onto Leesburg Pike.
OP gets the green and waits a beat, like any rational driver does today.
However, 3 seconds into the red light, a driver in a Hilldrip Box truck barrels on through.
3 seconds after that, a driver in a white Toyota Sienna follows, forcing OP to slam on his brakes again to avoid what would’ve been a T-bone collision.
A possible explanation, either bad driving or the sun in their eyes.

This Redditor suggested it might be because people assume the light is green after a box truck.
“Always wait if there is a tall truck coming because the people behind them can’t see the light and just assume it’s green,” /y/Mandrakearepeopletoo suggested.
“Kinda rude of you to not let a couple more pass first,” one of the top comments from /u/nobodytoyou reads.
“The cemetery is filled with people who had the right of way,” /u/T62718382 adds.
In Fairfax County, Virginia, running a red light is a traffic infraction that carries a fine of about $200 plus court costs. The violation also adds 3 demerit points to your Virginia driving record, which stay there for 3 years according to the Virginia DMV. (Virginia DMV – Demerit Point System)
