Instead of turning left, this confused driver went straight, instead, and into oncoming traffic.

Saratoga County driver and Redditor /u/Crony1 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last year in April (Apr, 2024) showing a driver at this busy Clifton Gardens intersection head straight instead of turning left, with a new bearing headed straight for the front bumper of OP’s car.

Check out their colossal mistake that could’ve ended up a whole lot worse below, with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of US-9/Halfmoon Parkway and Halfmoon Crossing (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP turns right onto Halfmoon Parkway, headed straight for the left turn lane.

Suddenly, a driver headed the opposite way in the left turn lane suddenly goes straight!

Clearly visible in their lane is a left turn arrow indicating they should absolutely not go straight.

An arrow indicating what direction they should’ve headed.

Thankfully, they realize their massive mistake, but instead of stopping and signaling in the correct direction of travel, they decide to turn and go the wrong way.

OP doesn’t mention any accident occurring shortly after, so it’s safe to assume that the driver eventually went the right way.

“J**** C*****, that’s bad. I can only assume they were planning to turn left into a parking lot/gas station, but it still blows my mind they’d do it this poorly,” the top comment from /u/KOWguy reads.

“Good on you, OP! Don’t give these f***ers an inch,” /u/appa-ate-momo added.

“I would have lightly traded paint just to watch them explain to the officers why they were two lanes over a double yellow,” /u/Too_MuchWhiskey boldly proclaimed.

Driving the wrong way into traffic in New York state, e.g., “driving left of center, in the wrong direction,” carries 3 points on your license under the New York State DMV system. (NY DMV)

You could also face a fine for a first offense on a one-way street, which is typically about US $150 plus a $93 surcharge. (traffictickets.com)
