This Mercedes driver tried to take a shortcut, only for it to backfire in the worst way possible.
Dallas-area driver and Redditor /u/36Voltman shared head-shaking dashcam footage from a busy Highlands intersection from earlier in December (Dec 11, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars intersection, showing a Mercedes driver pulling a hare-brained move trying to make a shortcut, turning from a lane that only goes straight.
And of course, it ends in disaster.
Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of Rosemeade Parkway and Marsh (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
OP is driving along Marsh when he approaches the intersection with Rosemeade.
Slipping into the turn lane, keen eyes will notice a driver in a Mercedes stopped in the left-most lane going straight despite having a green light.
Only moments later do we realize what he’s trying to do, attempting to turn left despite not being in the right lane at all.
Thinking they found a gap in traffic, the Mercedes driver turns, not anticipating a driver in a blue Honda CR-V with the right of way.
The CR-V driver, not expecting such an unhinged scenario unfolding before his eyes, is blindsided by the turning Mercedes driver.
They both collide, the Mercedes slamming into the side of the Honda, hard, deploying both their vehicles’ airbags and causing thousands in damage.
The Mercedes is definitely totaled, and the same probably can be said for the Honda.
Thankfully, the hit was in such a way that most of the energy onto the Honda was directed away from the driver’s compartment.
It is, ultimately, uncalled for and an unnecessary situation.
“It’s almost like they were aiming for that car,” the top comment from /u/ColorlessTune reads.
“Wow, no self-preservation instinct at all. Even if the turn was protected, you still watch out for incoming traffic. Never know when somebody might run a red,” /u/Cobalt32 added
“I hope you gave footage to the blue SUV driver. You know that white car driver is going to lie their a** off to insurance,” /u/hellainahandbasket127 asked.
OP did not confirm if he did so (provide dashcam footage and witness testimony to the victim’s insurance)
In Texas, an illegal turn typically carries a fine of around $150–$250+ and adds 2 points to your driving record, or 3 points if it causes a crash. Points stay for 3 years, and accumulating 6 or more can trigger extra fees. (dallas.gov, dmv.com)
