A vehicle in proximity to the dump truck could have easily been hit.
Wicomico County-area driver and Redditor /u/Bitter_ad1320 shared headshaking dashcam footage from Route 50 from earlier at the tail end of December (Dec 31, 2025) to the /r/Dashcam subreddit showing an irresponsible dump truck driver losing a large part of their load, dumping it out onto the public highway.
Check out the dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on Ocean Gateway/ Route 50 just before the intersection with Friendship Rd (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is driving along Route 50 in the leftmost lane.
To his right is a driver in a dump truck that, at first glance, looks like nothing is amiss, but, upon further inspection, the rear cargo door is swinging open.
Just as they pass Parkers Produce Seafood, a large, rectangular, what looks like a 3-string Hay Bale comes tumbling out of the dump truck.
Those larger ones typically weigh upwards of 140 pounds.
It looks like no one was directly behind the falling Hay bale, and there seems to be a mechanism informing the dump truck driver that their cargo door is swinging open because we see their brake lights come on.
“I thought my windshield was going to have some chips in it for sure, lots of debris hit me,” reads OP’s caption.
“They must take a fiber supplement,” the top comment from /u/fprotthetarball reads.
“Gotta love those completely illegible DOT numbers. They really need to fix the marking requirements,” /u/strangelove45654 pointed out.
In Maryland, if a dump truck loses part of its load due to being unsecured, the typical fine is around $90, and it generally does not add points to the driver’s license. If the spilled load contributes to a crash, fines can increase, and points may apply depending on additional charges. (Maryland Courts – District Court Fine Schedule)
