“I went to get an oil change, and the repair guys apparently forgot to put oil back in,” says a quick lube customer, now with a new replacement engine.
If you need another data point to do your own oil changes, especially if you live in and around Allen, TX, this vid’s for you.
Dashcam footage shared by Allen resident and Redditor /u/Reddit_User_In_Space shows the moment these quick lube employees started up his car before putting fresh oil back into the crankcase.
What’s shown sounds an awful lot like the engine seizing, refusing to rotate, within seconds.
Check out the dashcam video shared to the /u/JustRolledIntoTheShop subreddit below.
If you plug in the coordinates into Google, the location you get is between these two: an Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers and Mavis Tires & Brakes.
At first glance of the video, it could be either of these places, but, as shown, only one of them has red bollards in front of the rolling doors.

With the above screenshot, I’ll leave it up to you to tell which shop wrecked this poor guy’s engine.
For those not familiar with quick lube shops, to get cars in and out within as little as 10 minutes, multiple employees are doing separate tasks.
Someone underneath the car in the pit removes the drain plug, drains the oil, and re-installs the drain plug.
Another employee up top is checking all the other fluids and filters before they eventually add oil.
And usually there are up to two other employees doing a complimentary vacuum, window clean, and inspecting tires for correct pressures.
With good training, communication, and everyone doing everything by the book, there are usually no issues.
That, however, is not the case here.
Someone clearly dropped the ball in making sure there’s fresh oil before starting the engine, a crucial and costly mistake.
To the shop’s credit,
“To clarify, this happened in March 2025. The shop bought and installed a replacement engine,” OP clarified in the comments.
“Brave to let the shop that couldn’t remember to put oil in and engine install a whole new one,” /u/ABpro90 replied.
Everyone makes mistakes.
However, when it comes to quick lube shops, this is a mistake that’s easily avoidable, 100%.
