The dirt bike rider apparently was not injured enough to turn his colossal mistake into a hit-and-run.

Downtown Richmond-area driver and Redditor /u/Ebola_Fingers shared shocking dashcam footage from earlier this week (Jan 7, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the moment a dirt bike rider blew a red light, slammed into the side of a car, and apparently had the wherewithal to collect himself and turn it into a hit-and-run.

Check out the dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Jackson St. and 3rd. St. (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is stopped on Jackson St., ready to go straight.

With the green light, traffic in OP’s lane, including traffic in the other lane going the other way, starts to cross 3rd.

Keen-eared listeners can hear the sound of an approaching dirt bike coming from the right.

Suddenly, a dirt bike rider appears from the right with no signs of slowing, blows past the limit line, and is now on a collision course with the side of a Toyota Camry with the right of way.

The dirt bike rider hits the side of the Camry, sending him flying before landing on his back.

The hit was violent enough that you can see the Camry rock violently back and forth.

Apparently, the driver is OK.

As for the dirt bike rider, he fled the scene, so your guess is as good as mine. It’s safe to assume he checked into the ER or urgent care shortly after.

“Driver is okay. Biker immediately fled the scene as is tradition,” OP clarified in the comments.

“I hope that guy’s okay! A friend of mine was t-boned like this over a decade ago (edit: the motorcyclist ran a red light and everything), and the guy died. Messed my friend up for a long time. She also still has permanent physical injuries from the dent he made in her car. And that guy’s still dead, so his family and friends still miss him,” /u/theprozacfairy somberly shared.

“I hope the guy in the car is ok. The biker guy is an idiot and deserves whatever consequences he faces,” /u/shiffity80 added.

In Virginia, running a red light is a moving violation that can lead to a fine of up to about $350 and typically adds 3–4 demerit points to your driving record if an officer issues the ticket, which can raise insurance rates. If a traffic camera catches the violation, the civil fine is usually lower (often under $50) and doesn’t add points to your license. Causing a crash while running a red can make the consequences worse — potentially higher fines and insurance impacts due to the collision itself. (drivinglaws.org)
