This driver ran a red light a full 6 seconds after it turned red.
New Haven County area driver and Redditor /u/DontJustSayRelax shared headshaking dashcam footage from an area notorious for red light runners to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, showing exactly that, not only a red light runner, but an extreme one, too.
Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened in the 800 and 900 blocks of Whitney Ave at the intersection with the entrance to the Eli Whitney Museum (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed northbound on Whitney Ave when he comes up to the aforementioned intersection.
He comes to a stop, and so does traffic on the other side.
You can see a pedestrian now with the right of way starting to cross, but halfway through, a driver in a white Acura TL can be seen blowing past the red.
You can count, but it’s at least 6 seconds since they got the red light, with at least one Redditor saying it was more like 7 seconds.
The pedestrian, thankfully, had the wherewithal to keep her head on a swivel and was nowhere near the red light runner when they blazed past her.
Thankfully, nothing came of the incident.
The pedestrian, however, likely got another sobering reminder to be extra careful when crossing.
“That’s outrageous. That second car went through 7 seconds after the light turned red,” the top comment from /u/Minute_Tart_8259 reads.
“That will kill someone one day, and they will probably still play the victim,” /u/Slayer-Sango soberly added.
“This is where we need a red light camera,” /u/JSDgame suggested.
In Connecticut, **running a red light is a moving violation that typically adds about *2–3 points* to your driving record once you’re convicted, which can raise insurance rates and contribute toward license suspension if you rack up too many points. (State Regs Today)
You’ll also face a fine (often ~$100–$150+) for the violation itself, and points stay on your license for about 24 months. (State Regs Today)
Accumulating 10 points in 24 months can lead to a 30‑day license suspension from the CT DMV. (dmv.org)

That driver needs to be apprehended and they need to lose their license for retraining. Impound their car for 30 days. Plus a big juicy fine. You’re going to have to get tough if you want to stop this crap
