A no-look u-turner ended up nearly colliding with dashcam owner going close to 50 MPH.
Mercer County commuter and Redditor /u/ShroomGlizz shared absolutely headshaking dashcam footage from Thanksgiving ’25 to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the shocking moment a no-look U-turn from this careless driver nearly ended in disaster.
Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened in the 2200 block of Nottingham Way (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed eastbound on Nottingham.
The speed limit in this area is 40 MPH.
As OP passes the intersection with Sterling Ave, a driver parked next to Beebe Bath and Kitchen Showroom immediatly busts a U-turn, presumably to head the opposite way down Nottingham, without looking for incoming cross traffic at all.
Simultaneously honking, OP swerves out of the way, barely missing the no-look u-turner by inches.
OP invokes her deity while letting out a sigh of shock and relief, understandably so.
OP replied to a comment clarifying that she, indeed, did not get hit, only experienced a close call.
“At some point, we need to do something as a society to address this level of stupidity,” the top comment from /u/Zadenii reads.
“Not building stroads like that would go a long way. If this road had a median, for example, this stupid maneuver wouldn’t be possible in the first place.,” /u/Sutepanku replied.
In New Jersey, making an illegal or unsafe U‑turn (like blowing a U‑turn without yielding and nearly hitting someone) is typically charged as an improper U‑turn and carries a **fine usually around about *$85–$140* plus court costs, and adds 3 points to your driving record. If it’s charged instead as careless driving, the court can fine you roughly $50–$200 and add 2 points on your license. Accumulating points can trigger surcharge fees and eventual license suspension under the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission’s point system. (legalclarity.org)
