This driver’s confusion at this Walled Lake Roundabout almost contributed to this roundabout’s infamous and dangerous reputation.

Commerce Township-local commuter and Redditor /u/Individual_Click5252 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in January (Jan 27, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a confused driver not knowing how to navigate a roundabout, almost causing a crash right in front of OP.

Check out the driver’s confusion play out below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

As mentioned, the incident happened at the Martin Parkway & Pontiac Trail roundabout (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

With three lanes, multi-lane roundabouts are known to be tricky to navigate if you don’t know what you’re doing.

At this particular one, drivers choose a lane and follow the signage to a T.

Diverting from the roundabout’s signage instructions causes, as this dashcam shows, near misses and accidents.

According to a survey by Michigan Auto Law, this particular roundabout is literally the second most dangerous in the state when it comes to total crashes.

Midway through the roundabout, he has to come to a stop because a driver in a red Volkswagen hatch is stopped in front of him.

That hatch likely entered pointed westbound on Pontiac Trail from the middle lane.

Drivers who enter from the middle can either continue straight onto Pontiac Trail or turn left onto M-5.

Here’s the signage they saw and what lanes they’re supposed to go through.

Pointed westbound on Pontiac Trail.
Vehicles entering from the middle lane can either go straight onto N Pontiac or turn left onto M-5.

This driver, unwilling to re-route or just plain confused, tries to brute-force their way into an inner lane, but without yielding properly, they almost cause a crash.

Thankfully, the driver stops in time, and OP is able to sneak behind them.

Presumably, everyone else makes it out of the situation unscathed, but, boy howdy, was that unnecessary.

“What a f***ing moron. They’re willing to bring the entire circle to a halt because they can’t reroute and take their L like an adult,” one of the top comments from /u/appa-ate-momo reads.

Might have been used to roundabouts in Mexico. For some insane reason, the cars INSIDE must yield to the incoming cars. Been watching it while on vacation for years. Still can’t wrap my brain around it,” /u/Ashamed_Bicycle2323 shared.

In Michigan, making an unsafe or improper lane change (like changing lanes in a roundabout) is treated as improper/unsafe lane use, which typically results in 2 points on your driving record if you’re convicted. (George Law) The exact fine varies by local court but is often around $115–$130 for improper lane use. (kentcountymi.gov)
