A distracted driver doesn’t notice traffic slowing in front of them. Almost rear-ends a Corolla but swerves out of control and crashes into the side of them, instead.
Broward County commuter and Redditor /u/Rank_1_Glad shared headshaking dashcam footage from the Florida Turnpike from earlier last week (Feb 12, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver, not paying attention, losing control and crashing into the side of a Toyota Corolla.
Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on the turnpike (FL-91) just before Exit 62 onto Commercial Blvd (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed southbound on the turnpike, with traffic around them travelling at around 70 MPH.
OP is passing traffic at nearly 80 MPH, so conditions are dynamic.
Traffic begins to slow, and, unfortunately, a driver in a Honda Civic in the lane to their right doesn’t react in time.
They emergency-brake to avoid rear-ending the Toyota Corolla in front of them, but also lose control.
The driver in the Civic whipsaws around and tail whips the side of the Corolla, causing thousands of dollars in damage to both vehicles.
Thankfully, that’s mostly what happens, and the Civic driver regains control before pulling over to the breakdown lane to the left.
“Wow, terrible reflexes,” the top comment from/u/discgman reads.
“Damn, they chose pretty much the worst way to handle that,” /u/FunnyObjective6 added.
In Florida, if you’re cited for a moving violation that results in a crash like hitting the car in front of you because you didn’t slow/stop in time, that can count as a moving violation with crash involvement and typically adds 4–6 points to your driving record under the state point system. (FL Highway Safety)
Accumulating points can lead to higher insurance rates and, if you reach 12 or more within a year, a 30‑day license suspension, with longer suspensions at higher point totals. (FL Highway Safety)
