Logging truck driver came within feet of crashing, head-on, with oncoming traffic.

Bamberg County driver and Redditor /u/randetous shared headshaking dashcam footage from the Heritage Highway from earlier at the end of January (Jan 26, 2026) showing a reckless logging trucker take an unnecessary risk overtaking a dashcam owner on this blind corner against oncoming traffic and coming within a few feet of crashing.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened heading SE-bound on US-78, a half mile from the intersection with Goose Bay Rd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is driving at 59 MPH, slightly above the posted speed limit in the area of 55 MPH.

Suddenly, a driver in a logging truck with empty load accelerates and passes OP.

They start in a passing zone, but since they’re not fast vehicles, per se, by the time they can safely cut OP off, they’re now in a no-passing zone on a blind corner.

It becomes apperent why it’s a no-passing zone as the headlights of oncoming traffic come dangerously close to colliding with the logging truck.

Thankfully, the logging truck cuts over in time, but it was an unnecessary and risky maneuver.

“They were close enough to oncoming traffic that I’d be all puckered up for sure,” the top comment from /u/Vwampage reads.

“It took one second from when the trailer fully crossed back into the right lane to when the oncoming car passed it. That guy is a piece of s***,” /u/HogDad1977 added.

“I would have slowed waaaay down once he was in the other lane behind me, passing on a double yellow around a curve. I want no part of that s*** show,” /u/icanhazkarma17 suggested.

In South Carolina (including Bamberg), passing in a no‑passing zone (marked by solid lines) is an unlawful passing/moving violation and will typically result in a traffic ticket with points added to your driving record (often 4 points under the state’s point system). (SCDMV)

Accumulating 12 or more points can lead to license suspension by the South Carolina DMV, and fines for unlawful passing can run roughly $100–$300 or more depending on circumstance. (SCDMV)

Operating a commercial or logging truck doesn’t change the basic unlawful passing offense; if the illegal pass contributes to a crash, prosecutors could pursue more serious charges such as reckless driving with higher penalties. (legalclarity.org)
