Impatient driver runs through two red lights just to “bypass” a red light, but breaks a bunch of traffic rules instead.
Montgomery County driver and Redditor /u/Pwntastik shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in February (Feb 16, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an impatient driver making their own rules, risking a multi-vehicle accident, just to bypass a red light on their way to making a U-turn.
Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened along MD-28 at the intersection of Montgomery and Hurley (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is driving northbound on the aforementioned intersection and stops in the left turn lane towards Hurley.
Suddenly, a driver in a black Ford Expedition in front of them thinks they’re above waiting for a red light, slips into a lane headed straight, and busts a U-turn from the wrong lane.
In their “it’s all about me-me-me world,” at least one car with the actual right of way has to stop to avoid t-boning the Expedition.
Thankfully, vehicles are able to avoid the Expedition, and the impatient driver gets their way.
“The SUV could’ve gone over the curbed median without any problems. Would’ve been less dangerous and possibly even fewer traffic violations,” the top comment from /u/anUNRULYfan reads.
Typically, Maryland aside, this type of movement violates two general traffic rules.
- Improper turning position (§21-602)
- Unsafe U-turn (§21-604)
In Maryland, both Improper Turning Position (§21-602) and Unsafe/U-turn violations (§21-604) are treated as minor traffic infractions with preset fines of about $90 (higher if the action contributes to a crash) and normally carry 1 point on your driving record.
If the violation contributes to an accident, the fine can rise to around $130, and the point assessment increases to 3. Points stay on your record for two years and accumulating enough can trigger driver improvement requirements or suspension. (courts.state.md.us)
