A careless driver turning left onto Warren from Canton Center fails to yield. Sideswipes dashcam owner with right-of-way.

Wayne County driver and Redditor /u/Solid_Huckleberry255 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in February (Feb 17, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a careless driver turning right on red from Canton Center sideswiping a dashcam owner with the right of way.

Check out the dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Warren Rd. and N Cantor Center Rd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed eastbound on Warren Ave towards the aforementioned intersection.

As they approach the intersection, a turner can be seen in a dark colored Jeep Compass making a right on red.

Right on reds are allowed in Michigan, provided you come to a complete stop and yield, and if there’s no signage prohibiting it.

There are no signs saying you can’t do that here, turning right onto Warren from Cantor Center.

This Compass driver, however, does not yield at all and encroaches into OP’s lane.

The Compass sideswipes OP’s vehicle, likely causing thousands in damage.

OP can be seen slowing and pulling over where they presumably traded insurance information.

“”He didn’t see me coming” He didn’t even know the road is shared with other people,” the top comment from /u/DizzyDay reads.

“It’s amazing how people interpret “right on red” as “you can go anytime, no need to look,” /u/Kerbart added.

“And then the “if I swerve over in the other lane I don’t have to turn the steering wheel so far,” probably combined with “which is convenient as I’m texting with the other hand”

In Michigan, if you fail to yield the right‑of‑way before making a right turn on red and cause a sideswipe collision, you can be cited with a civil traffic infraction, and courts commonly impose a fine (often around $100–$150 plus court costs) along with 2–3 points on your driving record, which can increase insurance rates and potentially lead to license suspension if you accumulate enough points.
