This Tesla driver realized too late that they’re headed the wrong way into 680, so they chuck it into reverse into traffic instead.
Bay Area driver and Redditor /u/Tiberius_Jim shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in March (Mar 1, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a harebrained driver in their Tesla pull an insane reversing into traffic move to try to make the right freeway on-ramp entrance.
Check out their dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
[OC] Taking “Bad drivers never miss their exit” to a new level.

The incident happened starting on Sunvalley Blvd and transitioned onto Willow Pass Rd. (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
OP is stopped at Sunvalley in a lane headed towards two dedicated left-turn lanes towards 680 North.
Out of the scene in front of the Cybertruck is a driver in a Red Tesla Model 3 who, the consensus is, realizes they need to get onto 680 S instead.
With the 680 S on-ramp lane to their right, they do something insane and reverse into traffic behind them in a bid to get to the right-most lane headed towards 680 S.
They almost make it, but traffic in the right-most lane does not let them in (and rightfully so), forcing them to go straight down Willow Pass Rd. instead.
“Where did people’s shame go? If I’m at an empty intersection and realize I’m in the wrong lane, no cars around, I’m still not reversing to get in the right one. I screwed up! I’ll go around the block and take an extra 5 minutes. The fact that some people will do this with traffic literally being held up by their shitty antics… I just don’t understand it,” one of the top comments and sane insights from /u/QuixoticPineapple reads.
“I am no longer surprised when my area shows up on this sub. Even more sad that a simple U-turn at the next intersection would resolve this. Also, there are several opportunities in that area to get on the freeway around there,” local /u/Theb1ff added.
In California, driving in reverse into live traffic can be cited under unsafe backing (California Vehicle Code § 22106), which prohibits backing a vehicle unless it can be done with reasonable safety. The base fine is about $35, but with state and county penalty assessments, the total typically comes out to around $230–$250, and it adds 1 DMV point to your record. If it creates a serious hazard or leads to a crash, an officer could instead cite reckless driving (§ 23103), which carries higher fines and 2 points.
