Ford recently introduced the all new 2018 Ford Expedition and now law enforcement can update their fleet with this updated SUV.
You’ve seen plenty of police departments running around in all new Ford Explorers but now they can step up to something bigger to haul around perps and all your equipment. According to our motoring friends over at Autoblog on their post earlier today (Apr. 5,2017) Ford is introducing its Ford Expedition and its all new lighter chassis for use by law enforcement fleets. With 300 pounds of savings thanks to aluminum being integrated into the chassis, police can outfit their Expeditions with more equipment without having to sacrifice performance. If you have to haul around large amounts of equipment on a daily basis and possibly might be traversing rough terrain, the 2018 Ford Expedition might be what you need in your department. Powering this police spec Expedition is Ford’s 3.5L Ecoboost V6 producing 375 HP and 470 lb-ft. Paired to an all-new 10-speed automatic, you just might see some savings in overall fleet fuel use if you’re easy on the pedal (which is a lot to ask for from police vehicles when time is of the essence.)
And the Expedition isn’t the only vehicle that’s updated in Ford’s police fleet as Ford’s 2018 F-150 joins the team. In the Ford F-150 you can spec out Ford’s naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 over the 3.5L EcoBoost V6.
For both, expect to get heavy duty alternators and easy to clean interiors.
Both the Expedition and F-150 are extremely capable vehicles in their own right. A cursory glance at the map of the United States will reveal that while most of the media attention might be focused on metropolitan departments and their high-speed chases in Chevrolet Caprices and Dodge Chargers, there’s a largely rural and semi-urban population that can benefit from a larger police vehicle outside of the Explorer.
As far as we know there are no other manufacturers as invested in supporting police fleet services quite like Ford so we expect to see many of these new Expeditions and F-150’s making their way to local units soon.
